Trygg Trafikk is an umbrella organisation for the voluntary road safety work and serves as a link between voluntary associations
and the road safety authorities.
The organisation shall due to its statutes promote the best possible road safety for all groups of road-users. Trygg Trafikk
is given a special responsibility for promoting traffic education in kindergarten and school, and providing information and
knowledge about road safety.
Trygg Trafikk was established in 1956 after an initiative from the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry
of Justice, the Norwegian Insurance Association and the three motoring clubs. Trafikk consists of a central national administration
placed in Oslo, and employed county secretaries in each county.
National Plan of Action
The purpose of the National Plan of Action for Road Traffic Safety is to outline the challenges faced by current Norwegian efforts to improve road traffic safety.
The main actors behind the plan are the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the police, the Directorate of Health, the Directorate of Education and Training and the Norwegian Council for Road Safety.

European Transport Safety Council
Trygg Trafikk is a member of European Transport Safety Council (ETSC). ETSC is a Brussels-based independent non-profit making organisation dedicated to reducing the numbers of deaths and injuries in transport in Europe.
Founded in 1993, ETSC provides an impartial source of expert advice on transport safety matters to the European Commission, the European Parliament, and Member States. It maintains its independence through funding from a variety of sources including membership subscriptions, the European Commission, and public and private sector support for various activities.
Decade of Action for Road Safety
2011 - 2020 has been declared the Decade of Action for Road Safety by the UN . Officially proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in March 2010, the Decade provides a framework to countries and communities to increase action to save lives on the world's roadsThe decade will be launched globally on the 11th of May.
In Norway the will be a press seminar on the 11th of May in the Dept of Transport, where Trygg Trafikk also will participate.
The Nordic Road Safety Council (NRSC)
The Nordic Road Safety Council is an umbrella organization for Liikenneturva in Finland, Rådet for Sikker Trafik in Denmark, Nationalföreningen för Trafiksäkerhetens främjande (NTF) in Sweden, Trygg Trafikk in Norway, Umferdarstofa on Iceland and Radid fyrir ferdslutrygdför on the Faroe Islands. In norwegian and in Scandinavia NRSC is known as Nordisk Trafiksäkerhetsråd (NTR).
